Watercolour painting "Passing Yacht"

One of my favourite places to paint is the Lake District.  This is one I made up and could really be anywhere in the Lakes.

I've tried to put in some foreground reeds using a fairly dry hake brush and flicking up with just the tip.  I prefer this method at the moment to using the rigger and doing each reed individually.  They tend to look slightly more realistic.  The lighter coloured grasses I put in with the finger nail.

Rather than 2 or 3 tiny distant yachts I'm trying just 1 slightly closer and bigger boat at the moment.  I don't know if it improves it or not but it seems to be the little things that makes up a buyers mind whether to purchase or not.  It probably doesn't make the slightest difference!

Hello Steven. I have come here after looking at your videos on YouTube, and very nice they are too. You've certainly mastered the art of free, expressive watercolours.

Hi Keith
Thanks for the kind words. After looking at your blog you have some nice paintings yourself. I assume you paint from real life. I envy your environment. I live in Birmingham and struggle for the lakes, mountains and estuaries I love to paint. I tend to paint from pictures in books which isn't ideal but my only real option at the moment.
Best Regards
Steven

Yes I feel very lucky to live in this environment, Steven, and to be able to paint outdoors when I want to. Even when the weather isn't very helpful!

If you have a printer, or can paint from your computer, I would be happy to send some photographs of wild landscapes to you.

Cheers Keith, that would be great. I'm always looking for new material.
