The sky here is my usual Raw Sienna wash with some Ultramarine blue visible through the clouds. The only thing I did different here was to take out some more clouds with a scrunched up tissue just above the horizon.
I think one of the easiest ways of ruining a painting is simply overworking it. One of best pieces of advice I heard was don't paint over a previously painted area unless you have a specific reason for doing so. Every stroke of your brush should count for something. The temptation to do too much can sometimes be overwhelming.
