Derwent Water in the Lake District

I painted this same scene in watercolour from a photo I found on Panoramio taken by Jeff Coates.  I thought I'd try it again, this time in oil.

I'm quite pleased with the result.  I love the Lake District.  We stayed there a couple of years ago in Grange-over-Sands Haven and it was one of the best holidays I've ever had.

My favourite part was on the way to Ullswater and driving through Kirkstone Pass.  There's a pub on the right as you drive up in the middle of nowhere.  The remoteness is fantastic.  I can't wait to go back.

You're getting quite skilled with oils. This one almost looks air-brushed.

The Kirkstone Inn must be one of the most scenic pubs in Britain!

Hi Keith

Kirkstone Pass must be one of the few places I've been that rivals your neck of the woods for beauty.

If I had some way of keeping an 8 year old in the back of the car quiet for several hours I'd love to venture north to the Orkney's and experience some of the landscape you have exclusively to yourself.

I think for now I'll have to make do with the Malvern Hills!
