'River Cole, Coleshill' 15" x 11" Watercolour Painting

This is a loose impression of the River Cole that flows through East Birmingham and out to Coleshill.  I've a lot of childhood memories of various locations along this river.

Recently the council have opened the Kingfisher Country Park that basically allows anyone to walk alongside the River Cole for its entire length.  The plucky volunteers help rid the river of shopping trolleys and other unfortunate items that end up partly submerged in its flow.

Sounds like a good theme for a series of paintings along the length of the Cole.

You know Keith, that's just what I was thinking!

Hi Steven,
I quite agree. I used to pass through Coleshill three or four times a week. If you can ignore the motorways and 'stuff' it's a lovel part of the Midlands, and there is some very painterly scenery to be enjoyed. I am just about 30 mins away myself (on a low-traffic day, so I should get myself out en plein air!

I like your impressionistic view of Corporation Street too. It's a subject I would have to gear myself up for! Nice work again; in oils and watercolour.
Regards.

Hi John
Thanks for your kind comments. I’ve always liked Coleshill. I remember as a kid my nan taking me and my sister on the bus during the school holidays and we would have tea in one of the high street cafes on the hill.

My dad was born in Shustoke just slightly further down the road and it’s another area I’d like to explore for painting subjects. They must be ten-a-penny in that neck of the woods.
Best Regards
Steven
