Hello Steven, good to see you are painting a beautiful loch. I think the size of this painting is very important it will have plenty of impact. I think loose watercolour painting style is really nice when painted on a grande scale. The artist Arnold Lowry paints on half imperial size and it works very well for him. Smaller more intimate works have a different appeal too. I run a couple of painting workshops each week on an on going basis and one of them is a beginners watercolour class. The students swing from very large scale to postcard size often experimenting on the same suject. Today we were talking about the impact painting sizes give. I especially love the delicate fore shore in this painting. Lovely colours and fresh as ever. Happy painting.
Hi Caroline Lochs are one of my favourite painting subjects. 15” x 11” is the largest I’ve tried in watercolours, though I would like to try something bigger. Best of luck with your workshops. Regards, Steven.
