My first book - 'Oil Painting Step-by-Step'

Well here it is, my first attempt in the world of publishing!  Time will tell if the black and white format works.  The book follows the last oil painting I did with a series of photographs from a blank canvas to the finished painting.

You can preview the book at my new bookstore http://www.LearnToPaint.net

I would be extremely grateful for any comments or constructive criticism that I can take forward into my next book.

That was quick work Steven. The book looks nice and easy to follow. I'm still not sure about the black-and-white, but maybe it won't matter for an instruction book.

I also wonder about the subject matter: There are a lot of art instruction books about. If you could do a book about an area - The Colne perhaps, or even Lake District lakes or mountains - with some informative text, I think it might be interesting to more people. You could probably sell that kind of book in gift shops etc. I think people might pay more for that as well.

Thanks for the comments Keith. I do like the idea of concentrating on a specific area. I've just finished a YouTube video of me painting Loch Goil. I may try and use the video stills for a book. Take care. Regards, Steven.

I had a look at the book preview and I actually liked the black and white! For the scenes shown in the preview were well drawn and nicely laid out. As an artist the monochrome looks very inspiring and I would be interested in seeing how the painting would turn out by using the step by step instructions. It is possible though that a beginner might find it hard to work from the monochrome. It would be good to get some more feedback regarding this. Very nice book Steven.

Thanks Caroline for your comments. I know what you mean regarding beginners and black and white. I'm trying to think of a way of using colour and keeping the costs down. I'm glad you liked it though. Regards, Steven.
