'Winter Morning' 15 x 11 inches Watercolour Painting | Book publi shing?

I painted this one in response to an email I had from Larry in Dublin.  He wanted to know the colours used in a Ron Ranson painting he saw in a book.  I felt the best way to work out the colours was to paint the picture myself.  I love this kind of scene and was happy to paint it.

I've noticed recently one or two artist bloggers have produced their own books using online services that have now become affordable and user friendly.  I've always envied travel writers.  It must be wonderful to earn a living from your journeys.

I was looking through the photographs of a recent trip to Cornwall and had the thought of combining travel writing and paintings together in a book.  It's just a thought but certainly something that intrigues me.

Hi Steven, when you say affordable how much is that! I also have noticed quite a few artists publishing their books so it must be something that can become a reality. It sounds exciting though, good luck if you decide to go for it.
Thanks for sharing the snowscene with us, it is very pretty and well painted in the loose RR style. What colours did you use out of interest, I like the way the darks are dark without looking losing that soft watercolour look.

Hi Caroline
If you search Google for ‘Photo Book’ there are lots of places that produce these books. I’ve got to suss out the prices and find books that let you have text as well as pictures. As you mention though, it does sound a very exciting project.
Regarding the painting, the sky and foreground shadows are a mix of Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue. The darker areas such as trees and bushes are various mixes of Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber and Ultramarine Blue. Keep painting!
Regards, Steven.

I've noticed a few of those books Steven and it's got me thinking too. In fact someone suggested a while ago that I should do a book on Caithness illustrated with my paintings. I think it might be a good thing for you to try, because books could sell in a lot more places.

Hi Keith
Hmm… Caithness in Watercolours. Now that sounds an interesting project. Could you be tempted? Have you seen blurb.com?
