Loch Eriboll 15" x 11" Watercolour Painting

This is a very simple watercolour impression of Loch Eriboll measuring 15" x 11".  I'd love to do a tour of Scotland.  It's crossed my mind to hire a motor home but the prices they charge are ridiculous.  I think it would be cheaper to stop in bed and breakfasts.  I'll have to have a think about it.

Your sky is amazing!! I think the bed and breakfast would be a fun way to go. Bet you'd meet so many great people!!

Ah yes, Loch Eriboll, I know it well. I have to go right around it every time I go over to the west coast. This view looks like the one looking over the loch to the west.

Have you thought about camping? There are some good camp-sites these days, with all the facilities. Otherwise, if you're prepared to rough it a bit, I've seen people hire a Transit van or similar and sleep in the back of it. You would just have to accept airbeds, camping stove etc instead of all the built-in equipment.

It must be 25 years since I last went camping and to be honest Keith I don’t think I could face it. I’ve got too used to the comforts of hotels! As for the van, maybe if I were doing it alone I may consider it but if I suggested it to my other half she’d probably laugh in my face!

Thanks Manon. Yes, I think bed and breakfast would make for a cracking trip. My mum and dad did just that a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time.

Loch Eriboll is quite a way up on the west coast near Cape Wrath which I still haven't been to! My friend lives in Ullapool which is one of my favourite locations. Another friend said that in Edinburgh there is a great Youth Hostel which is very comfortable and inexpensive. Don't try the Ullapool Youth Hostel though! apparently it is very basic. Do be aware that fuel prices are very high at the moment I don't know what you are paying down in your part of the country but here it is expensive £1.12 a litre and past Inverness it gets to really high prices which doesn't seem fair considering the miles you have to travel to get anywher in the highlands. So do plan your trip carefully. Lovely atmospheric painting by the way.

I filled the car up yesterday and paid over £1.20 a litre. I think it’s just a case of biting the bullet. Any trip wouldn’t be for a while yet. Also, I’d have my eight year old in the back and I don’t know how long his patience would last with all the driving. But it’s something I’d like to do one day. My sister and her husband would like to move to Inverness from the Midlands but I don’t know whether it will ever come to fruition. It would certainly make a good stopping point!
