Road to Loch Lomond 15" x 11" Watercolour Painting | Book Competi tion

Had a nice time in St Ives last week down in Cornwall.  Weather was mixed but always warm.  The highlight would have to be racing on the gokart circuit in Hayle, though it was rather hot in full overalls and crash helmet in the middle of our heat wave!

This is a loose watercolour impression of the road on the approach to Loch Lomond.  I painted it from a photo I found on google so unfortunately have no idea as to where exactly it is.

I've pretty much decided that black and white books don't work when it comes to art.  But I'm not giving up just yet.  My next book is a compilation of my paintings from the last year or so and will be in full colour.  I'm going to enter it into the 2010 Blurb Photography Book competition.  Last entries are July 15 so if anyone else fancies a go then visit www.blurb.com and get creative!

I really like the perspective in your lovely snow painting Steven, the view is really nice and the road leads us into the scene so well. The colours are good and there is a nice chilly feel of a cool winter's day. The main tree is my favourite it is beautifully painted, I like the way you lift the paint out from the paper to suggest branches. very nice.
Do you still have plans to do the watercolour book Steven? I wish you are the best of luck for the blurb book competition.

Thanks Caroline. I would like to do a watercolour book but at the moment I couldn’t say when. The main thing holding me back is the fact I haven’t sold a single copy of the oil painting book! I don’t think black and white works. From now on I’m only doing books in colour and will just have to price them a little higher. As for the competition book, it’s a full colour collection of paintings from the last year. I don’t expect to win but hopefully it will get some exposure and may even sell a few copies! Hope you are well. Look after yourself. Regards, Steven.
