Thanks for the comments. I’ve loved the fast and loose painting technique ever since I first watched Ron Ranson on DVD as a novice. The large hake is a wonderful tool once you overcome the initial frustrations.

I have to admit that I use photos from the internet as reference for most of my work to date. I live in Birmingham, an industrial city that affords few great vistas. I'd love to explore Scotland one day soon. It’s a landscape painter’s dream.

Your Crail piece triggered moments of nostalgia for me! I painted all up and down that coast two years ago during my week long stay in St Andrew's! Crail was the highlight of that painting epiphany! A lovely vista!

I have tons of bubblewrap at work so protecting glass frames has never been an issue for me. My problem is what frame to choose in the first place. I’ve always avoided this problem by just sending the painting in a tube and allowing the buyer to frame themselves. I’ve recently started advertising my paintings in mounts so time will tell if this works better.

Yes, I prefer to send paintings just in mounts because of the risk of the glass breaking in frames. I don't like acrylic glazing because it scratches so easily.

I think watercolours look better in a mount rather than just as a loose sheet. However, I have just been reading about some people who varnish their paintings and frame them like oils. I'm not sure about that, but I'm going to look into it a bit more.

It had been a while since I last used the small hake brush but with a bit of practise they shouldn't be any more difficult than the larger format. It remains to be seen if they are any more saleable. I'm constantly wondering if I'd be better selling framed, mounted or neither. To date I've generally just sent the painting in a tube. It's difficult trying to second guess what frame people would like. Am I right in saying you sell yours in just a mount?
